ABOUT AFK WARS
A small independent project.
AFK Wars is made by one independent developer using AI assistance for development and production, and published under the AFK Labs name. It began with a simple idea: an idle screen could become a space battle worth watching—and sometimes joining.
This is an early release. The developer keeps their personal identity private; product support is available at [email protected].
What you install
A portable desktop app for Windows x64 or Linux x86-64. It uses its own idle detection while running in the background. It is not a Windows .scr file, a lock screen, or a replacement for your operating system’s power settings. Automatic activation is optional.
The Python runtime and application libraries are bundled. You do not need to install Java or Python. Extract the entire ZIP and keep its folders together.
Security and updates
Windows executables are currently unsigned and may show publisher or reputation warnings. Keep operating-system security protections enabled. If you are unsure about a warning, contact support with its exact wording.
The built-in updater verifies signed release information and download hashes before installation. That release verification is separate from Windows publisher signing. Update checks are started from settings; watching and playing work offline.
Take the Helm uses a private purchase page for downloads and a Copy update code button for update access. Version 0.9.3 needs that code rather than the full purchase link. Anyone you share that link with can use it; keep it private. There is no account required to watch or play, and no subscription.
Compatibility, honestly
Native builds have been checked on Windows 11 and Ubuntu 24.04 with GNOME/X11. Physical sleep/wake, clean-machine installation and mixed-DPI monitor hot-plug still need broader testing. Wayland and other Linux desktops are not currently verified.
AFK Wars is designed with OLED displays in mind, but no screensaver guarantees prevention of burn-in. Keep normal display sleep and manufacturer care features enabled.
Try it and tell us what happened
The complete Watch edition is free. If you try it, useful feedback includes your operating system and display setup, whether installation was clear, any warning or crash, and whether you wanted to keep watching. On Linux, include your desktop and X11 or Wayland session if you know them.
Email [email protected]. Do not send card details, passwords, private purchase links, or logs containing personal information.
The optional Take the Helm edition costs $4.99 once through Stripe. Website purchases include a 14-day full refund policy and do not include a Steam key.
